I'm Sonia Dhaliwal. Your Weight Loss Coach for Teacher Moms
I’m all about helping teacher moms struggling with the weight loss roller coaster lose weight for good with one-on-one coaching. I believe in finding foods that help teachers feel fueled, learning ways to sneak in some self-care, and exploring how areas off our plate can affect the progress of our weight-loss goals. If you're going to be on your feet all day delivering engaging lessons and then run home to your little cherubs waiting for you, we need to figure out what's going to give you your second wind. You deserve to be in front of your students with all the confidence in the world and overhear your own kiddos say things like, "Mom is so much more fun now that she plays games with us!"
Teaching and working with kiddos has always been a warm place in my heart. I've taught in the elementary grades for about 11 years and I started health coaching after a wake up call I had during my last pregnancy. Being diagnosed with preeclampsia and having to induce labor 5 weeks early really made me start to think about overall health. Struggling with weight and body image since elementary school, it was time to start putting myself first so I could better take care of my family.
Weight loss programs that asked me to count calories or points never really worked for me. I started "diet programs" back in middle school and continued off and on all the way through marriage. It was time to get some answers. I joined Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a health coach so I could better understand what constitutes "healthy," improve my relationship with food, and experiment with different ways of eating.
I learned that calorie restriction, large amounts of stress, and attempting to burn more calories than consumed just doesn't work for many of us in the long run. Changing my relationship with food and realizing there's no 1 size fits all method in eating has really made a difference. In a year I lost over 50 lbs, made peace with food, and began feeling more energetic than ever! The journey is not over, but now that I have a better grasp on what foods fuel me, I am enjoying playing with other areas of health that are not on the plate.
